Delegation from Poland visits SACL for an International Seminar

An international seminar “Constitutional Consciousness as a Remedy for the Crisis of Discourse and Democracy Deficit in the European Union” organized by the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania alongside the Vilnius University Law Faculty took place on 8 April. SACL judges and Law Faculty representatives had a chance to discuss legal issues with judges and legal researchers from Poland.

The seminar was attended by judges of the Supreme Administrative Court of Poland Prof. Bartosz Wojciechowski (Head of the European Law Division), Prof. Marek Zirk-Sadowski (Director of Judicial Decisions Bureau) and Nicolaus Copernicus University Prof. Milena Korycka-Zirk. The seminar attendees discussed topics such as dynamism and deliberativeness in the interpretation of law on the example of cases concerning LGBTQ+ rights, contemporary aspects of the principle of proportionality, the right to an effective remedy in freedom of expression cases in the light of the rule of law principle, disciplinary liability of judges, effective judicial protection under European law, national identity as a constitutional value.

Representatives of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania – President Gintaras Kryževičius, Vice President Skirgailė Žalimienė, Justice Veslava Ruskan – expressed their gratitude to the Polish delegation, as well as Dean of Vilnius University Law Faculty Tomas Davulis, Prof. Dr. Jurgita Paužaitė-Kulvinskienė, Doc. Dr. Vygantė Milašiūtė and Doc. Paulius Griciūnas for sharing their latest insights and tendencies in various legal areas closely related to administrative law.
